(Single) (R&B)

Friday’s surprise release by singer/rapper, SZA, is a great track!
Following a couple of singles she released on movie soundtracks (notably “All the Stars” for 2018’s Black Panther, and “The Other Side” for 2020’s Trolls World Tour), SZA is back with a nee single featuring Ty Dolla $ign on the simplistic, and extremely catchy hook.
Production for the track was done by The Neptunes, which was easily discernible due to it having Pharrell’s four-count start, and once again Pharrell and Chad Hugo—who makes up the other half of The Neptunes—do an excellent job with the track. The song is full of swelling synth crescendos and decrescendos, accompanied by blissful background vocals. This is probably one of SZA’s best sounding tracks, at least, in my opinion.
SZA’s performance is also great and serves the track very well, her singing is relaxed to fit the ‘chill’ aesthetics of the song, but is also very clear, and heartfelt. All the while, she is singing lyrics all written with the track’s title, and the hook which repeats it, very much in mind; they seem to describe ups and downs present in some form of unconventional relationship, and how it can really be pleasurable in so many ways, but can also lead to disappointments and heartbreaks.
Overall, I enjoyed the track and urge you to check it out on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/7Bar1kLTmsRmH6FCKKMEyU?si=r4INiVlRROKKC6lxwX4_dg
